Margarita Siourina "NOT-YET-EVENING LIGHT"

On Artist Margarita Yurkova

We got acquainted with Margarita Nikolayevna Yurkova in Sculptor Alexander Ryabichev’s Studio at her personal exhibition called ‘MER-KA-BA’, successfully held last April. We’ve got acquainted recently, but I had the feeling we had known each other since very long. Perhaps it was for the fact we were the namesakes, or the reason was how she displayed her works – but from the first glance at them I felt astonishing consonance of Artist Margarita Yurkova’s ideas and images with my own thoughts and feelings…

The author speaks of ‘MER-KA-BA’ exhibition concept like that: ‘Each point contains the whole Universe. Everything I’ve been busy with up to now, is ‘MER-KA-BA’ Project.

It’s absolutely clear, so I won’t analyse the concept, I won’t shower complicated fine arts terms, shining like cheap bijouterie throughout articles nowadays. I shall write as becomes to an Artist facing another Artist.

Margarita Nikolayevna Yurkova does not notice formal distinctions on principle; in other words, she does not attach any value to standard clichés, dominating today over how the masses see the world, that separate the one-piece flesh of the macrocosm into single ‘semantic subject niches’.

The idea was reflected in the very display of the exhibition: in high and echoing space of the sculptor’s studio, all the works came as neighbours suddenly: Our Lady, sea shells, village tom-cats, Angels and pumpkins with apples…

‘But you’ve displayed these works side by side on purpose,’ – I semi-said, semi-asked the Author, looking closer at two graphic sheets displayed next to each other: ‘Our Lady’ and ‘Tom-Cats’.
The Author answered: ‘Well, simply it’s just a carpet-type display, one after another…»
It’s simple, but not quite…

That’s the essence of how one feels about life and art: Margarita Yurkova is indeed a very kind artist and person. She just loves to draw and put paints on the canvas, so the lines and spots on her works move freely and organically, while everyone without exception understands the images created by her. She just loves life, and everything she sees: children, animals, butterflies; the Evangelic themes in her works grow up to Simple Life Stories, pieces of daily chores rise to the level of Holy Sacrament.

It’s a rare and happy example when ‘the boat of love HAS NOT broken itself against daily chores’, when both fuss and weekdays stay put aside, when one keeps in focus only ‘good, kind, eternal’,
only joy and light…

Everyone can notice ‘the light in the eye’ especially if one trains oneself hard.
But to see the light in everything, it’s far from everyone’s abilities.
Margarita Nikolayevna Yurkova sees the light and can reflect it.

Eventually, it is what a real artists aspires to at all times, it’s what should be discussed in different languages, in any manner, in various techniques, styles, for ever…

And as Dante Alighieri put it:

…..For, through the universe,
Wherever merited, celestial light
Glides freely, and no obstacle prevents.
